Paradise |
We’ve done some miles since I last wrote you: Singapore, West coast of Malaysia, West coast of Thailand and soon India. Yes that’s right our new adventure takes us over to the Andaman islands NW of Thailand. We hear its good cruising ground and that not many yachties go. Described as remote island paradise with powder white beaches, coral reefs, lush green rain forests and abundant bird life. How could we not go!
Similan Island, Thailand |
We have chosen to take crew with us for the adventure, a german couple. Our friends on Thyme and Gadfly are also going to the Andamans and they also have crew so between us all they’ll be 11. Who knows we may even get to sail over, Thailand has some wind over here which is a nice change unlike Indonesia and Malaysia.
We are having 2 sails repaired at the famous Rolly Tasker sail makers and have had a new Screecher made. He looks fantastic!

The new sail in action! |
These last 2 weeks we’ve been busy preparing for our one month journey to India, the boat has been completely rearranged and restocked needless to say days of work. New parts, repairs and maintenance, to sails, engines, toilets, shower, watermaker and the list goes on..... all hard work for Richard whose the maintenance man and I his assistant.
Thailand has been a fabulous cruising ground for us: short sails to anchorages, beautiful cliffs, good snorkelling & kayaking, emerald waters, caves to explore and yachty supplies easily available. Food is cheap, motorbikes are cheap, people are friendly and we are no longer celebrities like in Indonesia.

We enjoyed Christmas in Nai Harn beach with other yachties from the Indonesian rally and spent New Years in Patong a loud but entertaining night with fireworks and crackers going off. Our friends on Thyme and Gadfly going us.

Malaysia was a very different experience from Indonesia. A much wealthier country with plenty of business and mixed cultures of Malay, Indian and Chinese. Loved the Indian flavour and all it had to offer. Fantastic food really cheap, great lively atmosphere with plenty of colour, fabric and music. Loved the sarees and Indian wear.
We live to tell the tale of experience the Langkawi cable cars. What a view and height, fantastic. Our boat was in the bay below us.
Dived into Singapore for afew days and luxuriated in a hotel room. Completely different vibe being in the heart of Singapore amongst the commercial living and multitude of shopping plazas above and below ground. Singapore is certainly a wealthier country than Malaysia.
Malaysia has some great historical areas and Melakka offered us a real treat. Great museum of Cheng Ho history, a eunich commissioned by the Emperor of china to explore the world by sea and make trade. Captain of their fleet of 300 ships he established a base in Melakka and the port established itself on the world map for trade.
Back to present day and our plans are to start making our way over to the Andamans in about 8 days. By then we will be all crewed up, loaded with food and eager to sail.
We've taken so many photos its hard to select afew but now the blog is underway again they'll be more as we continue our journey.
Love this one! |
Til the next blog episode, we'll be dreaming on and into INdia.
